A network port is a 16-bit number (ranging from 0 to 65535) that identifies a specific process or service on a computer. When data arrives at your device, the port number tells the operating system which application should handle that data. For example, when you visit a website, your browser connects to port 80 (HTTP) or port 443 (HTTPS) on the web server.
